Fostering Fluidity: Posture Workshop
These lessons could be done in any order you choose, although the order suggested below is optimal. Please stop the recording if you need to and reach out if you need support!
Part 1: Clock Hands
This lesson explores communication between the hip and shoulder through reaching movements. It’s really more like “clock arms” although the official title is “hands”. Small and yummy little movements have the potential to create a lovely freedom in the ribs and spine.
Part 2: Exploring Hoops with the Arms
This lesson explores movements of the torso putting the arms in a large hoop as a constraint. Please feel free to prop up your arm hoop using blankets or pillows if needed for comfort.
Part 3: On One Ischium
Grab a chair with a flat seat for this one! This lesson is all about head and pelvis while sitting. I certainly won’t stop you from making large, exaggerated movements, but remember that the micro movements are what count at the piano. (This lesson’s alternative title is “half-ass sitting”.)
Part 4: Turning in sitting
You’ll need a chair for this lesson too! This lesson is one of the best ways experience variable practice (and its benefits) in action. In this lesson we explore all the possible ways to turn, plus some more!
